Friday March 6.
In science the grade 6s have finally solved the mystery of the stolen pug painting! We are now moving on to our next unit Air and Aerodynamics.
In language arts we finishing up our book trailers. We have also began a new read aloud book as a class, "Space Case". Next week we will begin talking about writing newspaper articles.
In studies we are learning about the geography and history of the Atlantic region of Canada.
In math we have been multiplying and dividing decimals (grade 6) and been multiplying 2-digit by 2-digit numbers as well as long division (grade 5). We are now moving on to geometry, and have began talking about different types of angles.
Because of the recent news and spreading of the Coronavirus, next week we will be reminding students the importance of washing our hands and other things we can do to prevent the spreading of germs.
Alberta Health Services has asked the Calgary Board of Education to distribute information on the novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) to all staff, as well as our parents and guardians.
This information has been posted to the CBE website.

In language arts we have finished our literacy group books and are now creating exciting book trailers on iMovie to demonstrate our understanding of the novel.
In social studies we have been learning about the Canadian Shield region and have just begun creating our Pokemon for this region.
In science the grade 6s hand been learning about handwriting analysis and are trying to make the suspects handwriting with the note that was left at the crime scene.

In math we are continuing learning about fractions. We are learning about mixed numbers and improper fractions, and fractions as part of a set.
In language arts we are working hard to finish our literacy group books, as well as vocabulary building through short stories. We are also finishing up our descriptive war letters.
In social studies the grade 5s are creating their pokemon for the Arctic Region of Canada.
In science the grade 6s are learning about fingerprints. We are analyzing all the suspects fingerprints and trying to match them with the ones left at the crime scene.
In art we learned how to paint a natural landscape using water colour, check out some of the artwork below!

In language arts we have been working on our spoken word poems. Many students will be presenting these at our poetry cafe on Monday with our special guest Miranda Krogstad who is a professional spoken word poet.
In social studies the grade 5s have began research on the Arctic region on Canada.
In science the grade 6s have started our new science unit: Evidence and Investigation. Unfortunately late last night their was a crime that took place in our classroom. A painting was stolen, and the grade 6s began to make sketches and take notes of the crime scene.

In math we have began/continued developing our understanding of area and perimeter. Looking at the relationship between the two concepts and solving related problems.
In science the grade 6s have continued learning about the lunar phases and why we see the moon change shape in the sky.
In social studies the grade 5s have finished their Pokemon for the Cordillera region and have now began research on the Interior Plains region.
In language arts we have been discussing theme and overall meanings our literary works. We have also began our literacy groups with each group reading a different novel.
In art we teamed up with our grade 1/2 buddy class to create poppy inspired art for Remembrance Day. See pictures above.

In science the grade 6s have started learning about the phases of the moon. Please remember to track the moon throughout the weekend on your moon tracking sheet.
In social studies the grade 5s have began creating their "Pokemon" that is adapted to live in the Cordillera region. Please make sure you are complete your rough copy by Monday.
In language arts we have almost finished of read aloud book "The Mystery of the Frozen Brains". We have also been focusing on literary devices such as similes, metaphors and personification. The practice sheets are due on Monday.
In French we have been creating our French Halloween books!

In language arts we have finished up on our opinion writing. We are currently preparing for out literacy groups. This week we practiced the role of the "questioner". This entails generating deep thinking/discussion questions about what we are reading.

In math we have spent the week focusing on using estimation strategies to solve problem as well as starting to take a look at multiples and how to identify common multiples between 2-3 numbers.
In science the grade 6s are starting off with the Sky Science unit. They have been busy doing research on their planets this week. Working with their groups they are putting today a google slides presentation that they will be presenting to the class.
In social studies the grade 5s have been discussing our over-arching question "How does the shape of the land shape our identity and quality of life?". We have also began to take a look at the geography of Canada.
In language arts we have been focusing this week on opinion writing. As well as reading comprehension strategies such as making predictions and connections to our read aloud book "The Mystery of the Frozen Brains".
In French we have reviewed numbers 1-20 and the days of the week.
